Youth Music Program
Pomona Youth Music Program is a FREE music program available to youth and teens. Participants in the music classes will learn to play the guitar, the drum set, to sing in a choir, and to participate in small group lessons for wind and string instruments, as well as to participate in orchestra rehearsals.
This music program will take place at Philadelphia Park Community Center, It will be offered during:
- Fall (September 5 - November 28).
Space for each class within Pomona Youth Music Program is limited; therefore, a strict attendance policy will be implemented.
Current Youth Music programs we offer:
Beginning Guitar Lessons Level 1
Beginning Guitar Lessons Level I
Participants ages 10-17 will learn the basics of playing guitar: fingering, chords, strumming and accompanying.
*No previous experience is required, and Guitars and books are available*
Time of class: 6:00 pm - 6:50pm at the Philadelphia Community Center
Clases De Guitarra para principiantes nivel I
Los participantes de 10 a 17 anos aprendaran los conceptos basicos para tocar guitarra: digitacion, acordes, rasgueo, y acompanamiento.

Intermediate Guitar Lessons 1

Participants ages 12-17 will study the main harmonic sequences in several major keys, as well as the most common strumming patterns in different meter signatures.
*Beginning Guitar Level 2 or previous experience is required. See instructor*

Percussion Level 3: Learning to Play Mallet Instruments
Percussion III "Learning to Play Mallet Instruments"
Participants ages 12-17 will be introduced and drilled on the basic techniques and skills needed to play mallet instruments such as the timpani, xylophone, and glockenspiel (bells).
Percussion II or previous experience is required. See Instructor.
*Instruments, music scores and books are available for practice during lessons.*
Participants who finish this course will be encouraged to join our Youth Orchestra

Los participantes de 12 a 17 anos aprendaran y practicaran la tecnica basica y las destrezas necesarias para tocar los instrumentos de percusion como los timbales, el xilifono, y el carrillon (campanillas)
Se requiere haber tomado clases de percusion nivel 2 or tener experiencia previa tocando instrumentos de percusion. Por favor de hablar con el instructor.
*Hay instrumentos, partituras y libros disponibles durante las lecciones*
Los participantes que terminen este curso podran unirse a nuestra Orquesta Juvenil

Percussion IV "Playing the Drum Set"
Participants ages 12-17 will learn, study and master the basic skills and techniques for playing the drum set. Participants will also continue to practice playing other percussion instruments learned in previous levels (snare, drum, maracas, claves, xylophone and bells.)
*Percussion level II or III are required. Interested students with previous experience who have not completed the required levels must talk to our instructor.*

Participants who finish this course will be encouraged to join our Youth Orchestra

Percussion Level 2: Learning to Play Small Percussion Instruments
Percussion Level II "Learning to Play Small Percussion Instruments"

Youth Choir
Participants ages 7-17 that are interested in joining our choir will undergo an auditioning process. Once admitted, participants will study and learn the basics of choral singing, such as proper posture and singing techniques, as they learn a repertoire of songs from Latin America.

*Talented participants who excel in this course will be encouraged to join our Youth Orchestra*

Pomona Youth Orchestra
Youth Orchestra Rehearsals for Middle School and High School Students
Instrumental Music and Vocal Music participants ages 13-17 will study, learn, and perform several arrangements of popular songs from Latin America. Participants must have at least 3 years of experience in either bad (woodwind, brass percussion), orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass), or choir (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), and must be able to read music.
*Participants may provide their own instruments. There are some instruments available that may be borrowed upon request*
*Credit for community service hours may be provided upon request as well*
Times: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
