Designations

The following application is required to be submitted for a Historic Landmark or District Designation, or a Determination of Significance. 

Designation Application

Alterations to Historic Properties

Alterations are defined as exterior changes or modifications made to structures, architectural details, or visual characteristics, grading or surface paving, addition of new structures; cutting or removal of trees, landscaping, or other natural features; disturbance of archaeological sites or areas; and the placement or removal of visually or architecturally significant signs, plaques, light fixtures, street furniture, walls, fences, steps, plantings, or landscape accessories.  All alterations on homes within the Historic Districts require one of the following applications, unless they are an exempted property.  In addition, any Claims of Economic Hardship must submit the following application:

Certificate of Appropriateness - Major and Minor

 

Or, for the following activities.

Minor Certificate of Appropriateness for Trees

Minor Certificate of Appropriateness for Solar Panels

 

In order to determine if Windows can be replaced, in addition to the Certificate of Appropriateness application, the following form must be submitted for each window proposed to be removed.

Refer to the Historic Preservation Design Guidelines to determine if an alteration is a Major or Minor Certificate of Appropriateness. 

 

Demolition of Historic Properties

In order to demolish a property 50 years old or older, there is a two-step process.  The first step is to determine whether a property is historic.  A Determination of Significance application is required.

If determined to be historic, then a Certificate of Deconstruction is required to be approved prior to demolition.  In addition, an Environmental Impact Report is required to be approved. In addition, any Claims of Economic Hardship for a demolition must submit the following application:
