For calendar years 2023 and 2024, the contribution limits are as follows:

$5,500 for Mayor

$2,750 for Councilmember (per the Charter amendment - 50% of the contribution limit for the mayor)

  • Primary and general elections are considered separate elections  
  • Contribution limits to candidates apply to each election  
  • Contribution limits to officeholders and other committees apply on a calendar year basis
  • Amounts are adjusted for CPI every odd year in January

For calendar years 2023 and 2024, the voluntary expenditure ceilings are as follows:

  • Primary election
    • Councilmember:  $14,450
    • Mayor:  $50,890
  • General election
    • Councilmember:  $25,460
    • Mayor:  $89,110

Per the Charter amendment, voluntary expenditure ceilings are 2% (Councilmember) and 7% (Mayor) of the limits applicable to State Assembly candidates in the primary and general elections.

If a candidate does not agree to the voluntary expenditure ceiling, they cannot submit a candidate statement for the voter information booklet.
